| LATEST PAPERS AND COMMENTARY | Transplantation (Free article) The shortfall of donor organs to meet the transplantation needs of people with organ failure drives initiatives to expand the donor pool. Effective public health measures have decreased the incidence of death from brain trauma and stroke, reducing the pool of "standard" brain-dead donors. This has led to the use of older expanded criteria donors and a greater emphasis on donation after circulatory death (DCD). READ MORE Transplantation (Free to ILTS members) Locoregional therapy with curative intent (CLRT) followed by salvage liver transplantation (SLT) in case of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) recurrence is an alternative to primary liver transplantation (LT) in selected patients with HCC. Researchers performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of studies comparing the survival of patients treated with CLRT versus LT, stratified by the stage of liver disease, extent of cancer and whether SLT was offered or not. READ MORE Transplantation (Free to ILTS members) The Model of Early Allograft Function (MEAF) grades the severity of liver graft dysfunction. Unlike the categorical early allograft dysfunction (EAD) classification, MEAF is a continuous score, based on bilirubin, international normalized ratio and alanine aminotransferase within three days posttransplant. Multivariable regression models were used to validate the MEAF score in 660 liver-only transplants performed between 2000 and 2014. READ MORE Transplantation (Free to ILTS members) Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), a clinically aggressive variant of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), is becoming an increasingly common indication for liver transplantation (LT); however, relatively little is known regarding its clinical course post-LT. The aim of the current study is to describe disease recurrence and clinical course after LT. READ MORE American Journal of Transplantation (Free to ILTS members via Ovid) Donation after circulatory death (DCD) liver transplantation (LT) reportedly yields inferior survival and increased complication rates compared with donation after brain death (DBD). Researchers compare 100 consecutive DCD LT using a protocol that includes thrombolytic therapy (late DCD group) to an historical DCD group (early DCD group n = 38) and a cohort of DBD LT recipients (DBD group n = 435). Researchers reported their experience of sleeve gastrectomy following liver transplantation (LT). READ MORE
