True Benefits of speaking in Tongues

"I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all

(1 Cor. 14:18)

Four Fold use of Tongues!

There are at least four uses or purposes of unknown tongues,
according to the New Testament: (1) as the initial evidence of the
baptism in the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:4; 10:46; 19:6); (2) as a gift to
edify the church when the tongues are interpreted (1 Corinthians
12:10); (3) as a sign for unbelievers that they might believe (1
Corinthians 14:22); and (4) as a God-given provision for effective
prayer and praise (1 Corinthians 14:2, 14). In all these cases,
tongues is the same in essence, but different in purpose. The
misunderstanding concerning these distinctive uses and purposes has
brought great confusion among Christians.

Personal Tongue: When a believer exercises the gift of tongues, it is
not his soul or his intellect that is praying. Instead, it is his
spirit that speaks to God not in a language that is known to his
intellect, but in a heavenly language inspired by the Holy Spirit.

1 Corinthians 14:14, For if I pray in an unknown tongue, MY SPIRIT
PRAYETH, but my understanding is unfruitful. Notice he said, My
spirit prays.

We can speak in the tongues of men (Acts 2:4) and of angels
(1Corinthians 13:1).

10 Benefits to Speaking in Tongues

1. First Corinthians 14:4 says, He that speaketh in an unknown
tongue edifieth (Charges) himself . . . . Therefore, speaking in
tongues is a means of spiritual edification or building up.

In other words, when a person prays in the Holy Spirit, he charges
himself up. He builds himself up like a battery that is charged or
built up.

2. Help in prayer!

In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know
what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us
with groans that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts
knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the
saints in accordance with God's will. (Romans 8:26-27) You know you
are praying according to the will of God. The Holy Spirit "makes
intercession for the saints according to the will of God" (Rom. 8:27)

Bonus: Powerful weapon against Satan

When believers pray in tongues, their prayers are guided by the Holy
Spirit in a heavenly language that Satan does not understand. Hence,
it becomes a very powerful weapon against Satan. For God alone knows
what we should pray for and how we should pray in order to win our
spiritual battle.

3. Times of rest and refreshing (Isaiah 28:11-12)

4. You know your spirit is speaking directly to God. The Bible tells
us, "For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God
for if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays" (1 Cor. 14:2,14, NKJV).
Praying in tongues can also be like a two-way street. When you pray in
tongues, God will often give you wisdom and insight to see better ways
of doing what you need to do.

5. Your faith is stimulated. Jude explained it best: "But you,
beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in
the Holy Spirit" (Jude 20). When you find yourself struggling with
doubt or unbelief, draw apart and speak in tongues, and your faith
will be stimulated.

6. You know you are "giving thanks well" to God. First Corinthians
14:15-17 assures you that when you speak in tongues, even if no one
around you understands what you are saying, you "give thanks well" to
God.

7. Power! Speaking in tongues is a evidence you are filled with
Dunamis power to heal the sick and cast out Devils

Our spirit language enables us to live in the Spirit, walk in the
Spirit, be led of the Spirit, have the fruit of the Spirit, manifest
the gifts of the Spirit and go from glory to glory until we are
transformed into His same image (Gal. 5:22-25; Rom. 8:14; 1 Cor.
12:7-11; 14:15; Eph. 5:18; Acts 19:2; 2 Cor. 3:18).

8. Praying in tongues activates the fruit of the Spirit. It's vital
and beneficial to have each of the spiritual attributes become active
and mature in us. Praying in tongues helps us fulfill God's
predestined purpose for us to be conformed to the image of His Son
(Gal. 5:22-23; 2 Cor. 3:18; 1 Cor. 13:1-13; Rom. 8:29).

9. Speaking in tongues brings the secrets of God's Spirit into our
spirit. When we speak in a unknown tongue we speak hidden mysteries to
God, through the spirit we can interpret mysteries.

10. Speaking with tongues keeps us continually aware of the Holy
Spirits indwelling Presence. Not only is speaking with tongues the
initial sign or evidence of the Holy Spirits infilling, but
continuing to pray and to worship God in tongues helps us to be
ever-conscious of His indwelling Presence. And if you are conscious
of the indwelling Presence of the Holy Ghost every day, that is bound
to affect the way you think and live.
