Re: Chemistry Networks Event

Dear all,

Thanks for sending this out.  I've had a couple of poster offers already so that's good.

I wonder if you (John) could please send out a similar e-mail now to our graduate students and postdocs.  I don't know if you want to invite them all regardless of whether they offer a poster or not but I suspect that it is better (based purely on the number of people that the cybercafe can accommodate) to invite only those who will present posters to attend.

Based on that assumption, there is some suggested text below.  I am happy to send it out to them but again, it may be taken more seriously if it comes from our HoD.

Klaudia - I see I missed a call from you last Thursday.  I am back from holiday now so let me know if you want me to come and see you.

Thanks again all.

Dear Graduate Students and Postdoctoral Researchers,

In order to welcome in our local industry contacts and informally allow them to understand us better, the Department plans to hold its inaugural Chemistry Networks event on the afternoon/evening of Thursday 29th September (see attached flyer for more details). The RIG Chairs and myself will provide them with an overview of our Department and our Science, followed by a drinks reception, at which we hope to see many Faculty in attendance, as well as students and postdocs presenting posters in all scientific areas.

If you would like to take part in this event by presenting a poster, then please contact Deborah Longbottom (dal28@cam.ac.uk) with the following information:

1)  Your full name
2)  Poster title
3)  Group affiliation

We are very much looking forward to your participation in this Department wide celebration of all our science.

Kind regards,

John

Thank you, Daphne/Klaudia.
I've amended slightly the text below and copied this to Yolande to
see what she also thinks. Thanks for your help: it is much
appreciated.

The part we would like you to play in this is dual: firstly, we would
like to invite you to attend the event; secondly, please encourage
your students and postdocs to offer a poster (ask them to directly
contact Deborah Longbottom - dal28@cam.ac.uk - if they would like to
do this). Please also feel free to pass on the invitation to any key
contacts you have in industry whom you think would benefit from
attending the event (please also let Yolande Cordeaux -
yc265@cam.ac.uk - know who you invite, should you do this, so that
they can be added to our Departmental list of industry contacts).
We would be grateful if you could also register here to allow us to
get the catering side of things judged well:
